22 November - SWBB commended at the Angela Vivian Award - A new award to celebrate Angela Vivian's approach to life. Angela
Vivian was a community champion and the Chair and Project Director of
IT for the Terrified, a group dedicated to helping people overcome
their fear of using computers. Angela described herself as "a crusader,
missionary and lunatic". A lifetime believer in the
concept of ‘pro bono populo’, she spent over 40 years in the Inland
Revenue. She ’changed direction’ in 1997 (she never used the word
retirement) and launched a number of social enterprises designed to
reduce the ‘digital divide’ in real terms for disenfranchised and
disadvantaged communities. "
In making the Award, the judges will be looking for a person who has,
against all the odds, got something significant done which really makes
a difference. The winner will have the passion and enthusiasm of
an achiever. They will be a creator not an adaptor; a leader not
a follower; a ‘doer' not a ‘talker' ".
